On June 16, 2012, I left San Francisco for a six week adventure as a volunteer on the island of Weno, in the State of Chuuk, in the Federated States of Micronesia. This is my attempt at keeping an online journal.

Thank you for this. I am an elementary education student. I am doing two presentations this term in school. One is about the Chuukese language and the problems students who enter the US school system have making connections between the two languages. The other is about older children with limited prior formal education. Your blog has given me more insight into life in the Chuuk area. I wondered if you could answer a few questions for me. 1) Does every island have an elementary school? 2) I read that students and teachers don’t consistently attend school. I am other questions but I’ll wait and see if you respond first. Thanks again for the narrative.
